The 2021 Century Challenge starts from the well-equipped Start and Finish at Mt Penang Parklands – Kariong, on the edge of the stunning Brisbane Water National Park.
If you are a local, you may have already been training on the Gosford to Woy Woy cycleway, or around the Brisbane Water cycle route or perhaps further afield towards Norah Head but have you challenged yourself along the undulating terrain on roads in the Brisbane Water National Park.
The Standard Route itself begins with a terrific descent into the beautiful Brisbane Water National Park on the old highway and then across Mooney Mooney Creek, to the beginning of a stunning early morning climb through an iconic bush area. This is your opportunity to benchmark your fitness as you climb the next 4 kilometers out of the rainforest to the beginning of Peats Ridge Road and some relatively flat terrain. Then, catch your breath. Let your legs cool down and have a banana because now you begin the undulating loop that forms the heart of our ride. Peats Ridge Road is a safe and wide road that rolls and undulates up towards Central Mangrove. You can ride in groups or by yourself, but get ready to rumble. This is fast road riding at it’s best. There are no significant climbs to note, just rolling stunning country side to enjoy as you clock up those early morning kilometres.
But keep something in the tank, and take in the beautiful scenery as you return to the Finish line and head straight to the coffee van and BBQ to chat with your friends about the highlights of this amazing ride.
